Forests and natural hazards
The Austrian landscape is characterized by low and high mountain ranges, which is why only 38% are suitable for permanent settlement. Floods, mudslides, landslides, rockfalls and avalanches pose a high security risk for the population, their living, settlement and economic areas and infrastructure.

Forests Fires
Forest fires have shown their destructive extent worldwide in recent years. It is likely that the frequency and magnitude of damage will continue to increase. Austria, too, saw an increase in forest fires. Alpine protective forests, which consist largely of conifers, are particularly at risk here and prove to be a great loss when they are destroyed by forest fire. -
