He is Tyrolean, father of two children and agriculture is in his blood: As Minister of Agriculture Norbert Totschnig is the strong voice for our farmers. The Federal Minister grew up with six brothers and sisters on a farm in Eastern Tyrol and has 20 years of experience in federal and agricultural policy. As a bridge-builder he understands how to reconcile economic, ecological and socio-political interests. His work in the field of politics has been characterised by a future-oriented and balancing attitude for 20 years.
Norbert Totschnig studied economic sciences in Innsbruck and completed a vocational training as skilled agricultural worker. Afterwards he gained experience, among other things at the parliament, at the Farmers’ Federation, and at the Maschinenring Österreich (Machinery Pool Austria). At the parliamentary group of the Austrian People’s Party he coordinated agricultural and environmental affairs and worked in the Offices of Vice-Chancellor (rtd.) Michael Spindelegger and Vice-Chancellor (rtd.) Reinhold Mitterlehner, until he took over the function of the Director of the Austrian Farmers’ Federation.
