Water doesn’t stop at national borders. Therefore it is necessary to harmonize and coordinate questions concerning water management at international level. Austria can look back at a long tradition of international cooperation. There exist treaties on waters forming frontiers with all important neighbouring states, mostly already since the middle of the last century.
