“Kremstal Garnelen” is an innovative aquaculture project in Upper Austria that has been producing sustainably farmed "White Tiger” shrimp in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) with two saltwater tanks since 2019.

The projects supported by the EMFF 2014-2020 were implemented across the country starting from the 2015/2016 academic year. Until the 2022/2023 academic year, a broad training programme was offered for the aquaculture and fisheries sectors. Educational projects facilitated swift and comprehensive information exchange with professionals and peers.
The project seeks to offer new income alternatives to farmers in the region Waldviertel by training them to farm catfish in an innovative recirculating aquaculture system (RAS), built inside a container. The corresponding policy goal is to increase freshwater fish production in Austria in a sustainable way.
