Also this year, some great projects took place on the occasion of the Danube Day under the motto "Keep the Danube blue". In the schlossORTH National Park on the Danube and at Maria-Theresien-Platz, people have been campaigning for Danube protection.

The Danube up close

On Monday, 17 June 2024, a special action day of the Danube Day took place at the schlossORTH National Park Centre under the motto "Keep the Danube clean” The participating school classes were welcomed with a varied programme that focused specifically on the importance of our vital resource, water.
The total of 330 pupils had the unique opportunity to expand their knowledge of the Danube, its diverse creatures and active Danube protection. At various interactive stations, they were able to learn in a practical way and experience the importance of protecting this valuable ecosystem.

Sturgeons in the middle of the city

Europe’s largest mobile aquarium attracted numerous interested visitors to our campaign days between 21 and 23 June. At Maria-Theresien-Platz in the Vienna city centre, endangered sturgeon species and other Danube fish could be observed closely in a twelve-metre-long aquarium. The winning band of the Danube Art Masters 2023, which spread a good mood with a self-written rap song about the Danube, gave a great performance. The aquarium, filled with 60,000 litres of water, draws the attention to the LIFE-Boat4Sturgeon project, which aims at reintroducing the last four remaining sturgeon species into the Danube. Sturgeons are among the most endangered fish species in the world and are important indicators of the health of an intact river and ecosystem.
