The prevention includes all preventive measures to avert forest fires, the intervention comprises all means and includes combating events and the management is subdivided into damage management and post-disaster recovery. Therefore, the information about a potential forest fire risk all preventive measures and the correct behaviour in case of drought is of special importance.

Measures to prevent forest fires such as a ban on smoking or the prohibition of lighting a fire are taken by the local authorities if required. These prohibitions and indications are announced by the authorities in media, such as the municipal newspaper. Forest owners make such prohibitions visible by means of boards. Also, a look at the Waldbrandrisikokarte (Forest Fire Risk Map) of the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) is helpful in this respect.

It is important to get informed and to behave cautiously and carefully when staying in or beside forests. Only in this way disastrous fires in dry areas can be prevented.

Information on the rules of conduct as well as on the Austrian fire prevention bodies are available under the heading “links“.
