In 2018 the contributions of the Austrian forestry and timber sector to the sustainability goals were recorded with participation of the members of the Austrian Forest Dialogue. The figures and data mentioned show very clearly - the sector makes a considerable contribution to the achievement of all 17 Goals.

In September 2015 the international community of states agreed on the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. With this agenda all 193 Member States of the United Nations have committed themselves to working towards the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals at national, regional and international levels by the year 2030. The Agenda 2030 provides for controlling the implementing progresses in the Member States on the basis of respective indicators.

Sustainable forest management is decidedly demanded in SDG 15. In Austria the concept of sustainability in forests has already a long tradition, is stipulated by the Forestry Act, and is safeguarded by respective governance instruments.

The document shows to which extent the forest-based sector of Austria contributes to the compliance with the various global Sustainable Development Goals. The survey was prepared in cooperation with the participants of the Austrian Forest Dialogue and the contact group International Forest Policy of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management.
