Coordinating authority / Control

The Ministry of Agriculture coordinates matters relating to the Marketing Standards Act and the quality and marketing standards based on this Act with the competent inspection bodies (Federal Office for Food Safety, Federal Provinces and district administrative authorities), the central inspection bodies of the Member States and of third countries, the European Commission, the OECD and the UNECE.

Domestic control

The respective Provincial Governor is responsible for checking compliance with quality and marketing standards (with the exception of imports and exports).
At the provincial level the coordination is carried out by the respective offices of the provincial governments. Depending on the Province, bodies of the food inspectorate, the market offices or their own quality inspectors are used for domestic inspections.
Checks concerning the classification of cattle and pig carcasses are carried out centrally by special federal bodies of AMA.
