With the “Regions of Delight”, a spotlight is placed on the typical culinary specialities of Austria’s regions. They are combined in a uniform quality and traceability system and developed jointly.

Austria’s regions are famous for their respective typical culinary specialities and experiences. They are provided by numerous enterprises - farms, manufacturers and culinary establishments. With great enthusiasm they produce unique foods and serve freshly prepared meals.

To put a spotlight on these regional specialities, the Ministry of Agriculture and AMA-Marketing launched the “Genuss Region Österreich” initiative (“Austrian Region of Delight”) in 2004. The brand quickly became established as a symbol for authentic, regional and at the same time diverse products, short transport routes and sustainable production. For over 15 years, the Regions of Delight have been an integral part of Austria's culinary landscape. The products offered by these committed holdings range from Marchfeld vegetables to Innviertler Surspeck (cured speck) and Alpbachtal hay-milk cheese.

By means of the Regions of Delight the large number of culinary and regional initiatives existing in Austria are bundled and aligned into a common direction. The objective is to specifically encourage the trend towards regional food and to position Austria as the very culinary destination in Europe.

Quality label

A harmonised, consistent and voluntary quality and traceability system with a joint marketing and sales strategy for the approximately 46,000 direct marketers, 6,000 manufacturers and 60,000 restaurants serves as the basis. From production to retail, marketing, restaurants and hotels, all the partners along the value chain are involved.

The quality label “AMA GENUSS REGION” (AMA REGION OF DELIGHT) guarantees standardised quality, regional origin and culinary delight with rural direct marketers, manufacturers and culinary establishments. Participating enterprises comply with clear quality criteria and are checked by external control agencies. Many culinary initiatives in the Federal Provinces are partners to the AMA REGION OF DELIGHT with their establishments.


All the regions and their products are now easy to find online at True to the motto 'From the region. For the region. Into the world.' the website showcases the delicacies offered by the Regions of Delight, provides tips on typically regional food and gives the names of the participating farms, manufacturers and culinary establishments at a glance.

Culinary Network

The Regions of Delight are part of the “Culinary Network” (“Netzwerk Kulinarik”), a strategic coordination platform for the cooperation between the Federal Government, the Provinces and regions as well as the restaurants and catering enterprises, manufacturers and direct marketers along the food value chain. It combines many culinary initiatives in a joint strategy for regional food and develops them in a joint approach. For that purpose, the network also supports holdings in the Regions of Delight in their activities. From product development and product presentation to event organisation, lots of Regions of Delight have already been able to successfully realise projects in the Culinary Network.
