In 2019, Austria ranks 12th worldwide with regard to international tourist arrivals by country of destination. Within the European Union Austria is the fifth most visited country.
In terms of tourism intensity (overnight stays per inhabitant), Austria is the fourth most popular tourist destination in the European Union after Malta, Croatia and Cyprus.

When it comes to Tourism exports per capita, Austria ranks on the 5th place worldwide (4th within the EU).

The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) holds the world´s biggest online collection of tourism publications and statistics, provides the tourism community with up-to-date market intelligence and compiles and disseminates tourism statistics of countries all over the world. Data and facts on international tourism are mainly drawn from the UNWTO database.
Another important data source for Tourism in the European Union (EU) is Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU.

The OECD measures tourism developments within the OECD economies.
Data on receipts and expenditure, domestic, inbound and outbound tourism, enterprises and employment as well as on international tourism consumption are freely accessible though the OECD data portal.
