Civilian service & volunteer work

Almost half of all Austrians are engaged in honorary activities, non-profit making organisations, associations or assist within the framework of neighbourly help. In 2019 14,660 performed civilian alternative service, 40 % of them in the field of rescue services and 30 % in the fields of social assistance and assistance for handicapped persons.
